Sonderburg (Sønderborg)

The Danish town on the border, situated at the Flensburg Fjord, features a lot of cultural highlights, like the open air theatre “Mølleparken”, various other facilities with a lot of different events or the castle Sønderborg. It is worthwhile having a look at the “German Museum Nordschleswig” and also the yearly festivity – “Ringreiten”. Along the coast there are great places for fishing, long tracks for hiking or biking. Sonderburg also provides golf courses for pitching and putting.

Seebüll

For art loving people the “Emil Nolde Museum Seebüll” is a must. Hans Emil (Hansen) Nolde is one of the leading painters, most famous for his watercolour paintings of the expressionism of the 20th century. Nolde is especially well-known for his expressive choice of colour in his work.

Flensburg

Glücksburg

Driving across the north of Schleswig-Holstein between the North Sea ánd the Baltic Sea you get to Glücksburg, the chic town directly at the Flensburg Fjord. It is famous for its water castle, but also the guided tours to the beach and through nature are attractive. Once a year, you can visit the enormous beach watching the synchronised fireworks. A lot of visitors go there for this event – so don’t miss it!

Schleswig

Museum x 2 - „Schloss Gottorf“ invites you to attend guided tours to the famous bog bodies and a lot more. It is famous for its art, cultural and archeological history. Not far away, on the outskirts of Schleswig; you have the unique chance to learn about the Viking’s life and history at “Haithabu”. There is no other place where the medieval trading town and the versatile culture is presented in a more spectacularly way.

Kappeln

In the middle of Anglia at the “Ostseefjord” you find the contemplative town Kappeln. This little town is well-known from a TV-soap called “Der Landarzt”. Have a stroll around the historic town, visit the harbour with its old sailing boats, the Chocolate Kitchen or the Anglia Steam Train. Use the possibilities for water sports, enjoy the intact landscape from a boat or have a cup of coffee in a cosy atmosphere. This little town is just right for those who want to enjoy life …

Nord-Ostsee-Kanal

Alongside this busiest artificial waterway of the world, you will find endless paths for biking or for peaceful walks in an intact landscape. Watch the up to 100 huge cargo ships or passenger liners using the canal; daily; or just enjoy the green of nature. There is more to explore along the link between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea than you may think.

Eckernförde

Eckernförde with its lovely harbour and an inviting historic town is situated directly at the Baltic Sea. You find a candy factory and a squirrel emergency facility. This animal is the town symbol. As unique are the “Sprottentage”, the “Piratenspektakel” and the art and culture festival. Information about the Baltic Sea is provided at the “Ostsee-Informations-Zentrum” (OIZ) for all guests.

Kiel

During the Olympic Games 1972 the capital of Schleswig-Holstein was in charge of the sailing competitions. Even today, Kiel benefits from the spacious facilities during e.g. “Kieler Woche”. For a whole week in June it attracts thousands of guests with its open air concerts on various stages, a lot of delicacies and all its fun fair like stands during this event. The highlight is the windjammer parade where hundreds of traditional sailing boats ship along the Kiel Fjord. This third biggest harbour for passenger ships is also well-known as starting point for cruises and for huge cargo ships coming in and going out, daily.
